We have a really dedicated Garden Club! All of the students participated (in the rain!) working up the soil and planting tulip bulbs. We are excited to add some color to the Moos campus next Spring!
The After School Garden Club learned a lot about growing food! We collected the stems of vegetables we eat every day to find out if we could re-grow the pant in only water.
The plants include carrots, potatoes, lettuce, green onions and avocados. Watch our blog to find out what plants we are able to grow! Today garden club is making our garden. We are coloring and cutting the fruits and veggies that are going into our garden. The little Mooskerteers are pasting the fruits and veggies to the paper and coming up with a name for the garden. Were having two kids draw a bench on the paper for our garden.
The Moos Garden Club found a great use for pumpkins after the Halloween holiday. Humboldt Park community members donated their pumpkins (not carved) and students cut them open and added soil and water. In a few weeks, the students will observe the pumpkin seeds growing new plants as the old pumpkin rots. It was a great project to demonstrate the cycle of life in a garden.
Ms. Boyer, the Moos 4th and 5th grade Science teacher applied for a grant to receive funding for an after school garden club and she got it! (Ms. Boyer is AWESOME) The club meets every Monday 3:30pm - 4:30pm . 18 Moosketeers, ages K-8th grade, are excited to start the Moos Children's Garden! This fall, the students are making plans for the garden and learning all about what plants need to grow. Their first project was a fall leaf project.
